Our Amazing Advent Learning

 

Today we made an Advent wreath. The Advent wreath always has evergreen leaves on it. 

There are 4 candles on the Advent wreath. Each week, we light a new candle. 

This week we lit a pretend candle for 'hope'.

Dear Families

We can hardly wait to welcome Suzy Cato and Itty Bitty Beasts to our school next Monday. 

We have been enjoying their music in the class and have been doing some awesome reading as we enjoy their lyrics karaoke style. 

The children who do reading with Mrs Tyro have a special job to do tonight and tomorrow night... try singing along to the songs featured below.  

For all of our wonderful learners who do reading with Mrs Blackmore, please enjoy these songs as an extra task after your normal reading at home routine. 

All Saints Dress up Day

 Dear Families

Here is some extra information to help you with costumes for this Friday.  Please refer to last Thursday's newsletter as well. 

This Friday we are celebrating All Saints day. We are going to dress up and enjoy fun learning about the Saints.  

Parents, don't worry. This will be easy.

Girls 

We will dress up as Mary.

We can wear a skirt and top or a dress. We can wear sandals. We can wear some material over our heads for a veil. A scarf might work well as a veil too.

Boys

We can choose to dress up as Saint Aquinas, the Saint of Learning. 

Or we can dress up as Mary's husband, Joseph. He was also a Saint.

Boys, if you are allowed to, your grown ups could help you to cut holes in an old pillow case to make a tunic style outfit. You might also like to add a belt. Over the tunic, you might like to wear your dressing gown as this will look like a robe. You could wear sandals to complete the look.

Parents, we will be able to find costumes for some children if you are really stuck. Please email us if you need some help. Jen and Cath

Our Wilowbamk Trip

 Dear Families

Please read this tonight for some shared reading. This is instead of the usually little reading books that come home. Have a great sleep children as see you tomorrow!

Mrs Tyro and Mrs Blackmore

Tomorrow we are going to Willowbank.

We will learn about Maori culture.

We will learn about the pataka and what it was used for long ago. 

This is a pataka and it was used for storing food.

We will see animals that belong to New Zealand. 

Maybe we will see a tuatara!

We will see some farm animals too! 

Tomorrow, we need to be at school by 8:30 am.

We need a drink bottle filled with water ...  

 

and a big lunch. 

Before we come to school, we need to put on sunscreen.

We need sunscreen on our face, neck, ears, arms and legs.  

We need a warm jacket.

No toys in school bags please. 

We will have a great day tomorrow!

A Celebration of Faith!

 

Look at Thomas!

Thomas has the biggest smile because.. this Sunday, he will be Baptised with his big sister Lucy.

We are so happy for Thomas and Lucy as they are welcomed into the Catholic church.

Duffy Day!

 

Dear Families

We are getting ready for Duffy Day this Friday, 11 Sept 2020. 

On Duffy Day,  all the children at NBC ( and the teachers) are going to dress us as one of their favourite book characters for the day. 

Here you can see some children getting ready for Duffy Day by wondering ..."what am I going to wear?" 

We also wrote about what we would like to wear....

We will sing the Duffy song on Duffy Day. Some of our learners have only heard it a few times. Here is is for you to enjoy at home with your family...

Also, on Duffy Day, The children will all come home with two brand new Duffy books to keep! It will be a really fun day.

Sprinkle a Little Sunshine

We have been enjoying and singing one of the BEST songs EVER!

It is called Sprinkle a Little Sunshine, By Kath Bee and Suzy Cato.

 

It is such an awesome song. We know we can all have those days where it may not be a great day for a whole lot of reasons. It is good to know that we can share these feelings and that things will get better.

We can start by making an effort to...

So this is what we did. We all did something that gave sunshine to others. It was a great day.

Thanks Suzy and Kath for inspiring a wonderful day at our wonderful school.

 

The Creation Story

First there was nothing. 

God made the sun shine. God made the night. This was the first day. 

God made the oceans and the clouds. This was the second day. 

God made the land, the mountains, trees and flowers. This was the third day.

God made the stars and the moon. This was the fourth day.

God made the fish and the birds.  This was the fifth day.

God made all the animals that live on the land. Then He made a person! His name was Adam.

This was the sixth day.

On the 7th day, God rested.

Volcano explosions at the beach

Isabel is making volcanoes at the beach.

Jack watched the lesson on fractions and then wanted to show how he understood the lesson using his favourite fruit at the moment! He cut his feijoa into two or in half! Yummy!
This is a great way to share out the feijoas or did you eat them all yourself?
I wonder how many feijoas you would need to give 8 friends a half each?

Jack’s trip to the beach

Hi there
This afternoon Jack went to the beach with his whanau. As we were leaving he got very excited as he saw a letter and a number!! Great spotting Jack. From Mrs B

Jack spent time this afternoon making a map with mummy and then writing clues to help spy daddy find Policeman Ted.
He did a great job writing his clues remembering all the letters!
