A Special reminder to the wonderful Room 8 Whānau

Dear Families

Our Mass this Thursday is celebrating The Assumption of Mary and also Mrs Tyro will be Baptised!

Here is Mrs Tyro with Father Bryan. Father Bryan is giving Mrs Tyro a special blessing with oil to prepare her for her Baptism. The oil was blessed by our Bishop, Paul Martin. 

We would love to see you at Mass. Thursday, 15 August, 11:30 start.

A special day is coming up for Nepote!

In Room 8, we have been talking about Nepote’s Baptism which is happening this Sunday at St. James!

We are so happy for Nepote as is welcome into the faith family. We hope he has a wonderful day.

How we learn to write

This blog is to help our NBC community support us to become early writers. In this blog we will share two really important writing strategies.

1. Use words that you know to build your story. In this photo, we are using words from the Early Words programme to build our story. We put the words into a sentence. Some of these children are writing Here is Mum.  Some of the children are writing Look at Dad.

2. We also use new words that we have never written before! We can write new words by looking at an alphabet card and finding the first sound of the word, then we can write it down. When we feel confident to record the first sound, we then think about the end sound and then the sounds in the middle. These children are writing scary stories about big spiders and hairy monsters! They are writing stories like Look at my b h m!  ( Look at my big hairy monster! ) Yikes!

When reading at home, the text should be easy and enjoyable to read.  Please remember that the text  has been used as a lesson at school where a lot of new learning was covered. However we all know, from time to time, some texts will give individual challenges. If this does happen using some of the prompts as highlighted in the video clip might be really helpful.

Please watch out for a sight word programme, called Early Words, that will be in your child's book bag over the next few weeks. This is a daily programme so please keep all associated resources in the book bag so they can be used the next day.

Learning about kindness..

In Room 8, Kindness means sharing, taking turns, saying what we need so others can help us and having gentle hands. Look at our very first video to go on our Blog!

Gardening

We  did some  gardening! First  we dug out all the weeds.
Then  we watered the very, very dry soil.  Then we sowed
some peas. It was hard work  but we all had lots of fun!
And, guess what  we found while we were digging! 8 Feb 2019
